Akshardham Temple in Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Akshardham Temple located in Gandhinagar of Gujarat, a state of India. Akshardham is the Hindu Temple complex influenced by Pramukh Swami, the former religious head of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Temple is gratitude to Swaminarayan, about their life and teachings. The foundation stone was laid by Pramukh Swami on 14 December 1979, the construction of Temple was completed on 1985 and the whole completed complex was inaugurated on 4 November 1992.

Akshardham is major tourist spot of Gujarat and visited by many tourists all over the year. The followers of Swaminarayan believe that the jiva or soul goes to Akshardham after attaining moksha, or liberation. Akshardham complex includes temples, exhibition hall, Garden and beautiful water show.

Sawminarayan Akshardham Temple - it is the main point of complex, constructed on 23 acres of land in the middle of complex. Temple measures 108 ft. height, 240 ft. long and 103 ft. wide, it is constructed with the 6000 metric tons of Pink sandstone. The temple houses intricate 97 pillars, 17 domes, 8 balconies and many sculpted figures. The mandir’s central chamber houses a seven-foot-tall, gold-leafed murti, or sacred image, of Swaminarayan, who is worshipped by followers as God.

Exhibition Hall - there are five exhibition halls which portrays the life and teachings of Swaminarayan. The Neelkanth and Sahajanad hall depicts life, work and teachings of Swaminarayan. The Mystic India hall is theatre which displays 40 minutes film on childhood age of Swaminarayan. The Premanand Hall is dedicated to Hindu Epics, religious Faiths and to some famous poets. The last one Sant Param Hitakarihouses an audio-animatronics show conveying a message of everlasting happiness.

Sat-Chit-Anand Water Show - it is the explanatory performance of the parable of Nachiketa, as told in the Kathopanishad. The show employs fire, fountain animations, laser, water screen projections, music and live characters in a 45-minute retelling of Nachiketa’s choice. • AARSH - it is the research institute aimed at Swaminarayan tradition in solving social problems.

Sahajanand Van - it is massive garden with many attractions.
