Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara, Gujarat

Maharaja Palace refers to series Palaces in Vadodara of Gujarat State of India. All these palaces were built since the Gaekwad, a prominent Maratha family, started ruling the Baroda State. The First building was Sarkar Wada, it was not a palace and was given up for the Nazarbaug Palace built in old Classical style. After this exclusive Laxmi Vilas Palace was constructed by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at a cost of GBP 1,80,000 in Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture.

Laxmi Vilas Palace is stated to have largest private dwelling till the date, at the time of construction it houses modern amenities such as elevators, interior was like extravagant European country house. The magnificent palace remains residence of Royal family.

Laxmi Vilas Palace constitutes 500 acres of massive compound, number of beautiful buildings, LVP banquets & conventions, Moti Baug Palace, Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum building and a golf course for use by his European guests, later Samarjitsinh, a former Ranji trophy cricket player, renovated the course and opened it to the public.
