The Botanical Garden is situated in Puducherry city of Tamil Nadu. The gate leading to the garden is tranquil example of French architecture and accessible easily as located in the middle of the old town. The Botanical Gardens laid its foundation on 1826 in the ornate French style, with pruned trees, flower beds and gravel lined paths and fountains, spread over 22 acres of lush land. Perrottet was largely responsible for transforming the place into a botanical garden in 1831. There is a wide collection of rare and exotic plants present in the garden, which especially attracts researchers and students. The gardens also have a musical fountain which is active over the weekends, with two shows in the evening.
