Step Wells in Bundi, Rajasthan

Bundi encompasses 50 Stepwells out of which only few are maintained. In old days these stepwells are the only source of water in Bundi state until the water pipe-line system has been introduced. In earlier times these Stepwells were used as centre of religious ceremonies and social functions, and constructed with beautiful carved terraces, well designed flights of steps and intricate sculpture. Some stepwells are Naga saga kund, Dhabai kund, Chand baori, Sukhi baori and so many.

Rani Ji Ki Baori- amongst the 50 stepwells of Bundi, Rani Ji Ki Baori is well- known and has been well-maintained Stepwell. It was constructed in 1699 by Rani Nathawal Ji who was one of the queens of Rao Raja Anirudh Singh ruler of Bundi. This Stepwell showcases arched getaway, lovely terrace, intricate pillars, sculptures and many art-crafts to look at.
