Chittorgarh Fort is one of the largest Forts of India and it is world heritage site located in Chittorgarh in southern part of Rajasthan. The fort was capital of Mewar and situated in the Chittorgarh City of Rajasthan. It is situated over a hill of 180 m in height and spread over a vast area of 700 acres. From the 7th century onwards Fort was ruled by Mewar Kingdom. The Fort was attacked three times by Mughal emperiors. In 1303 Allauddin Khilji defeated Rana Ratan Singh, in 1535 Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat defeated Bikramjeet Singh and in 1567 Akbar defeated Maharana Udai Singh II who left the fort and founded Udaipur City. During each battle Maharajas and soldier fought bravely as a result of these defeats, the women are said to have committed Jauhar or mass self-immolation as they found death better option than to surrender. The fort precinct has several historical palaces, gates, temples and two prominent commemoration towers.
• Vijay Stamba - called as the symbol of Chittor and hold expression of Triumph, it was raised by Rana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Shah Khilji. It raises 37.2 metres over a 47 square feet base in nine stories accessed through a narrow circular staircase of 157 steps.
• Kirti Stamba - its architecture was done with Jain sculptures built by Bagherwal Jain and dedicated to Lord Adinath. Kirti Stambha is a 22-metre-high tower built on a 30-foot base with 15 feet at the top.
• Rana Kumbha Palace - Rana Kumbha Place is located near Vijay Stamba it is the Place where Maharana Udai Singh was born. Palace houses elephant and horse stables and Temple of Lord Shiva. The palace is built with plastered stone and features intricate series of canopied balconies.
• Fateh Prakash Palace - built by Rana Fateh Singh and houses a small museum.
• Gaumukh Reservoir - it was main source of water in old days. The shape of reservoir is carved in cow’s mouth.
• Padmini’s Palace - Padmini's Palace or Rani Padmini's Palace is a white Palace. This is the place where Alauddin was permitted to see mirror image of Rani Padmini wife of Maharana Rattan Singh and it is also believed that this glimpse of Padmini's beauty besotted him and convinced him to destroy Chittor in order to possess her. Maharana Rattan Singh was killed and Rani Padmini committed Jauhar.
