Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, Rajasthan

Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) of Jaipur is distinctive benchmark, a five storey mansion with high screen wall built for women of Royal family so that they can observe street festivals and everyday life without being seen, since they had to obey strict "purdah". The architecture of this exceptional Palace is elegantly done up with red and pink sandstone. It was built in 1799 under the supervision of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and designed by Lal Chand Ustad. The main highlight of Hawa Mahal is its pyramid shape and its 953 windows or 'Jharokhas' which are decorated with intricate designs, which enables free circulation of Air.
