Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden located in Amritsar city of Punjab state of India. Jallianwala Bagh is world-wide famous for National importance known as Jalllianwala Bagh Massacre. This is the place where on 13th April 1919 Brigadier General R.E.H Dyer came from Jalandar Cantonment and occupied the city as civil administration. On 13th April 1919 Dyer was convinced of a major insurrection and he banned all meetings and this notice was not dispersed widely, same day was the day of Baisakhi festival and many people had gathered in the Bagh. On hearing that a meeting had assembled at Jallianwala Bagh, Dyer went with fifty Gurkha riflemen to a raised bank and ordered them to shoot at the crowd. Dyer continued the firing for about ten minutes, until the ammunition supply was almost exhausted. As the consequences around 400 people were dead and 1200 approximately people were wounded and still true figures are unknown.
Jallianwala Bagh houses a memorial of National Importance, it was established by government of India in1951 to commemorate the massacre of peaceful celebrators including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces, on the occasion of the Punjabi New Year on April 13, 1919 in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
