Karni Mata Temple in Bikaner, Rajasthan

Karni Mata Temple is situated 30 km south of Bikaner and dedicated to Karni Mata, it is a Hindu temple. The building was completed in its current form in the early 20th century in the late Mughal style by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. The temple is carved splendidly with white marble and intricate silver door exhibits legends of the goddess.

Karni Mata Temple is also known as Temples of Rats as 20,000 rats live in the courtyard of Karni Mata Temple. Behind the living of rats there is interesting story that they were strong man army who deserted nearby battle and they were punishable by death, but Karni Mata save their lives and made them rats. Amongst 20,000 rats there are some white rats which are especially holy. They are fed, protected and are worshipped.

Twice a year, a festival is celebrated in the Honour of Karni Mata. A grand fair is organized during this time and people come here to worship and take the blessings of the Goddess.
