Ranthambore Travel Guide

Ranthambore is situated in Sawai Madhopur District of southern Rajasthan and around 110 km from Kota and 140 km away from Jaipur. Jaipur is the nearest Airport and Sawai Madhopur is nearest Railway Station to reach Ranthambore. It is one of the major destinations of Rajasthan for its Wildlife Sanctuary and Ranthambore Fort. Ranthambore is surrounded with Aravalli Range and very closer to Thar Desert.
Before it was declared as Game Sanctuary in 1955, it was a hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Jaipur. In 1980 it became National Park and was listed among the reserves include under Tiger Project, it is best known for large Tiger population and is home to many other major animals such as leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, striped hyena, sloth bear, etc.

The splendid Fort was built in the 10th century, towers over the entire park area. Fort stands straight 700 feet above the surrounding plain. Fort houses three red Karauli stone temples devoted to Ganesh, Shiva and Ramlalaji God. There is also a Digamber Jain temple of Lord Sumatinath (5th Jain Tirthankar) and Lord Sambhavanath.
