Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra in Ajmer, Rajasthan

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra is a mosque located in the Ajmer city of Rajasthan State of India. Foundation of this Mosque was done by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak, on orders of Muhammad Ghori, in 1192 CE. It was finished in 1199 CE and further additions were made by lltutmish of Delhi in 1213 CE. This is one of the oldest mosques of India and oldest structure of Ajmer City. Mosque was built on the remains of Sanskrit college and materials are taken from Hindu and Jain Temples. This exquisite Mosque was built in Indo-Islamic architecture under the guidance of Afghan Managers.

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra has interesting story behind it construction, Muhammad Ghori after defeating Vigraharaja's nephew Prithviraja III in the Second Battle of Tarain, crossed through Ajmer city. During that time he recognised palatial temples, and ordered Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak to destroy them, and construct a mosque within a period of 60 hours (that is, two-and-a-half-days). The artisans could not build a complete mosque in the time given, but they constructed a brick screen wall where Ghori could offer prayers. After the end of century complete mosque was built.
