Mysore Palace in Mysore, Karnataka

Mysore Palace is historical monument located in the Mysore city of Karnataka State of India. This Palace was official residing place of Royal family of Mysore who ruled kingdom from 1399 to 1950. Magnificent Mysore Palace comprises of Two Durbar Halls, large courtyards, gardens and buildings. Mysore Palace is old Fort built by the Maharaja Rajarshi His Highness Krishnarajendra Wadiyar IV. Mysore Palace is now one of the most famous tourist attractions in India, after the Taj Mahal, with more than 6 million annual visitors.

Mysore Palace has Indo-Saracenic architectural style of domes and structures. It is a three-story stone structure with fine gray granite & deep pink marble domes having a facade with several expansive arches and two smaller ones flanking the central arch, which is supported by tall pillars, it also feature 145 ft five-story tower. The palace is surrounded by lush large garden. The palace has three entrance gates which hold the emblem and coat of arms of the kingdom of Mysore. Above the central arch is a sculpture of Gajalakshmi, the goddess of wealth with her elephants. Palace houses following complexes.

Ambavilasa - This room was used by the king as a hall for private audiences. This hall is adorned with gilded columns, stained glass ceilings, decorative steel grills, and chandeliers with fine floral motifs.

Gombe Thotti - It is a gallery of traditional dolls from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and also houses a fine collection of Indian & European sculpture and ceremonial objects.

Kalyana Mantapa - It is grand marriage hall of octagonal-shaped pavilion with a multi-hued stained glass ceiling with peacock motifs which are arranged in geometrical patterns.

Other Structures are Diwan-e-aam, a public durbar hall, palace complex includes twelve Hindu temples and an armory which contains arms used by the members of the royal family.
