Taragarh Fort of Ajmer earlier was the seat of Chauhan rulers which was originally believed to be built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. It was stated to be one of the oldest Hill Forts in India and World. Fort was built by King Ajaypal Chauhan on the summit of Taragarh Hill. The Taragarh Fort in Ajmer has six huge gates. The Miran Saheb ki Dargha is located inside the fort. Miran Saheb, a brave warrior and also the governor of the fort sacrificed his life defending and protecting Taragarh against an enemy invasion.
Fort overlooks Ajmer city offering mesmerizing views and spread over two miles in circumference and Fort can be accessed by very steep slope. When it fell under British Raj, the fort was dismantled on the orders of Lord William Bentinck and was converted into a sanatorium for the British troops stationed at the garrison town of Nasirabad.
